Using Chat
Lyniti's chat supports direct messages, group conversations, file sharing, reactions, polls, scheduled messages, and more.
Access Chat#
Open chat from the sidebar:
- Click Chat in the sidebar — Opens the sidepanel with contacts and channels
- Click a contact — Opens a floating chat overlay

Start a Conversation#
- Open the Contacts tab in the sidepanel
- Click a contact name — A chat overlay opens
- Type your message and press Enter to send

Message Features#
Reactions#
Hover over any message to see the reaction picker. Click an emoji to react. Click again to remove.

File Attachments#
- Click the attachment icon in the message input
- Select files from your computer
- Optionally add a message
- Press Enter to send
Message Formatting#
Use markdown in messages:
- Bold — Syntax:
**text**→ Result: text - Italic — Syntax:
*text*→ Result: text - Code — Syntax:
`code`→ Result:code
Mentions#
Type @ to open the mention picker. Start typing a name to filter. Select a user to mention them.

Forward Messages#
- Open the message context menu (right-click or three-dot menu)
- Click Forward
- Select the destination conversation
- Confirm
Schedule Messages#
- Open the message input options
- Click Schedule
- Pick a date and time
- The message is sent at the scheduled time
Polls#
- Click the poll icon in the message input
- Enter your question and answer options
- Click Create Poll
Members can vote on any option. Results update in real-time.

Read Receipts#
Sent messages show delivery indicators:
- Sent — Message delivered to the server
- Read — Recipient has opened the message
Chat Popup Window#
Open a chat in a separate browser window:
- Click the pop-out icon in the chat header
- The chat opens as a standalone popup
Popup features:
- Pin — Keep the popup always on top
- Lock — Prevent accidental close
- Minimize — Collapse to a small bar
- Resize — Drag the edges to resize
- Multiple chats can be open simultaneously

Group Conversations#
Create a Group#
- Click New Conversation or the group icon in the sidepanel
- Add multiple participants
- Set a group name and optional avatar
- Click Create

Manage a Group#
Group creators and admins can:
- Add or remove participants
- Change the group name and avatar
- Open the Group Management panel from the chat header
Chat Behavior on Navigation#
By default, navigating away minimizes the chat overlay instead of closing it. Change this in Settings → Desktop → Chat Navigation Behavior:
- Minimize (default) — Chat collapses but stays accessible
- Close — Chat closes when you navigate
Channels#
The sidepanel Channels tab shows workspace-wide channels for group communication. Click a channel to open it in the chat overlay.
